What to Pack for Your Boudoir Photoshoot:
The Ultimate Guide
Outside of "How do I pose?", the most frequent question clients ask us is what they should bring to the studio. The answer isn't a one-size-fits-all checklist, and it’s often much more flexible than people realize!
What’s Your Personal Style?
Every woman’s relationship with her body—and her underwear drawer—is entirely unique. Some view lingerie as an art form and collect it passionately, while others value comfort above all else (and some prefer nothing at all!).
Because of this, there is no single "perfect" outfit list. What matters most is how an outfit makes you feel. To accommodate every personality, our studio sets are designed to cater to two distinct aesthetics: light, airy, and romantic or dark, moody, and fierce. You can lean entirely into one vibe or mix things up with a bit of both. We highly recommend browsing our galleries for inspiration before your session to see what resonates with you.
Essential Styling Tips for Your Session
For a standard 3-hour session, we find that 3 to 4 distinct looks is the sweet spot. You are welcome to pack a few extra options, but keep in mind that more outfits mean more time spent in the changing room and less time in front of the camera!
Here is what you should consider when curating your wardrobe:
- Color Palettes: While classic bridal white and sultry black are always stunning, don't shy away from vibrant, bold colors. Jewel tones look incredible against the skin and can make your features—like your lip color—really pop.
- Pro Tip: Keep your nail color in mind. If you plan on wearing multiple colors, stick to a neutral or nude manicure so your hands don't clash with your outfits.
- The Right Bra: Opt for push-ups, demi-cups, or sheer bralettes rather than full-coverage styles. Make sure the fit is secure, keeping in mind that you will be posing lying down as well as standing.
- Accentuating Curves: Boudoir photography is all about celebrating your shape. Items that cinch the waist or define your silhouette—like corsets, bustiers, and suspender belts—photograph beautifully.
- Textures & Materials: High-end lingerie is worth the investment for the way it interacts with light. Look for rich textures like silk, lace, and chiffon. If your style is a bit edgier, modern strappy designs and subtle chain details add a fantastic contemporary vibe.
- Cozy & Loose Pieces: You don't have to bared-all to be incredibly sexy; sometimes mystery is much more alluring. Consider packing an oversized knit sweater, a silk robe, a vintage slip, a button-down shirt, or even cozy thigh-high socks.
- Stiletto Heels: High heels alter your posture in the best way possible. Bring a black pair and a nude pair—ideally the highest stilettos you own (the kind you can't walk very far in!). Try to avoid wedges or platforms, and double-check that the soles aren't heavily scuffed.
- Stockings over Stay-Ups: Traditional stockings designed for garter belts look much more elegant on camera than stay-ups. The silicone band on stay-ups can pinch the thigh, creating unflattering lines. If your lingerie is highly detailed, stick to stockings with a simple, clean top.
- Jewelry: Accessories are entirely optional but can add a lovely personal touch, especially during seated or standing poses. We can look through your jewelry box together when you arrive.
- Ditch the Tags: Take a few minutes before your shoot to carefully snip away any visible clothing tags. You'd be surprised how much a giant white care label can distract from delicate lace!
Special Considerations for Bridal Boudoir
If you are creating a bridal album, remember to pack your veil, garter, wedding shoes, and cream or white stockings. Many brides wear seamless, practical shapewear under their actual wedding gown, so this shoot is the perfect opportunity to showcase the romantic "wedding night" aesthetic instead.
